Grants 101 & 201 Workshop: Lexington [SOLD OUT]

Grant Ready Kentucky and the Kentucky Nonprofit Network (KNN) are proud to present this two-day grant workshop in Lexington on August 29th and 30th.

This Grants 101 & 201 Workshop series, led by grant professional Melissa Vermillion, GPC, MBA, will teach participants how to research and apply for grant funding for nonprofits. Day One provides an introduction to the grant process, and Day Two takes a deeper dive into a winning federal grant application.

Event details:

  • Participants are encouraged to attend both days but may register for either day
  • Coffee, light refreshments, and lunch will be provided on both days
  • Participants should plan to bring a laptop to follow along with course materials
  • Dates: Thursday, August 29 and Friday, August 30
  • Times: 9am - 4pm ET each day, with registration opening at 8:30 am each day

In Grants 101 - Introduction to Grant Writing (Day 1 - Aug 29), participants will learn:

  • The basics of writing styles
  • Proposal planning
  • Proposal writing format
  • Basic grant components
  • How to identify the problem
  • Providing outcomes, methods, and objectives
  • Budgets
  • Required attachments

In Grants 201 - Federal Grants Workshop (Day 2 - Aug 30), participants will learn:

  • How to find grant opportunities
  • How to review a grant solicitation
  • How to find and use data for the needs section
  • How to review examples of sections in a funded grant application
  • What makes a grant application competitive
  • DAY 2 HIGHLIGHT: As part of Grant Writing 201, GRKY is proud to host the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development for a Q&A on the new state GRANT match program (ced.ky.gov/grant)

About the instructor:

Melissa Vermillion, GPC, MBA has extensive experience with state and federal grant writing as well as a particular interest in assisting rural nonprofits and communities achieve their goals. She is one of only a few individuals in Kentucky who have earned the Grant Professional Certification through the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Melissa has successfully written grant applications to a variety of public and private funders, securing over $40 million in grant funding.
