
Kentucky Firewise Community Grants are awarded for projects that reduce the wildfire risk and/or hazard in Kentucky's wildland-urban interface communities.
Priority will be given based on community at-risk level, the establishment of a local FirewiseUSA Communit, and the type of project submitted.
Program Objectives:
• Support the establishment of Firewise USA™ Communities.
• Provide cost-share funds for wildfire mitigation and Firewise USA™ activities.
• Strengthen collaborative relationships with fire departments, communities, counties, and interested organizations.
• Educate the public about the benefits of wildfire risk reduction and the Firewise USA™ program.
• Reduce the risk of wildfires and their impact in wildland/urban interface areas.
• Complete Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs).

Kentucky local government or nonprofits:
Local units of government: a city, county, urban county, charter county, consolidated local government, special district, or a quasi-governmental body authorized by the Kentucky Revised Statutes.

Nonprofit organizations: must have IRS determination letter stating tax-exempt status.
Notice of funding decisions will be made by August 1, 2025.
Grant will start on October 1, 2025.
Projects must be complete and have all reimbursement paperwork submitted by June 30, 2026.
All project applicants must provide a match of 20 percent of total project costs with non-federal cash or in-kind contributions. Other federal funds cannot be used as a match for this grant.
